A blogging question, or why doesn't anyone like me?

I may be an experienced stripper, but I'm a newbie at blogging.
I'm doing all the things I'm supposed to. (I think. At least according to those "how to blog" columns)
I post very regularly -- every day. This is my 19th post.
I use lots of photos.
I give good practical advice.
My blog has a focus -- it's not just, "I had a coffee today"
My topic is definitely sexy.
I use my "tags."
I even "ping"!

And, unlike many other how-to-become-a-stripper blogs (which get way more readership), I'm not trying to sell you my book of "stripper secrets" for $19.99 on PayPal. I'm actually doing this out of the goodness of my heart.

But I haven't had many visitors to Coco Undressed. 30 before 30 kindly left me one message.
But I think I have few visitors except for me.
Can anyone explain why? Does it take several weeks for the blog to "register" on the Internet? It doesn't come up on Google searches, so how can anyone find me?

  1. Hi Coco!

Ah, yes, the difficulties of finding an audience.

My blog, which is about me in the present tense, mostly gets hits from guys looking for "hot stripper mom," etc.

I'm sure they're quite disappointed when they realize I'm no longer a stripper and then they quickly click away.

Finding an audience can be done, but first we need to figure out exactly WHO our audience is.

Who do you think you're writing for?

And thanks for the link to Stripper Mom--I'll gladly link to you, too!

    Best,

    Sheila

  2. Hi Sheila,
Thanks so much. It's nice to finally be getting some comments.
I'm not sure who my readers are. I'm hoping that some young strippers will find me, so they don't end up making the mistakes that so many girls to.
    Coco.

  4. Coco,

First ask yourself: what is the purpose of writing this blog and what type of traffic do you want to attract?

I blogged (as you put it) "out of the goodness of my own heart" for several years (thanks for the link to my OLD blog on your list!)

What I discovered is that people don't value anything that they get for free. Its sad, but true: just look at the sad state of American public schools. I also discovered that the majority of my readership was douchebag males that had nothing better to do than read stripper blogs....not actual strippers who could benefit from my expertise because 1. my myspace blog didn't show up in the search engine rankings and 2. they didn't want to sort through 1000 pages of blogposts to find the information they were looking for and would rather pay $19 to have what they were looking for conveniently delivered to their inbox.

If you want traffic, there are several things you can do.

First, read about the basics of SEO: go to google and do keyword research to find out what people are searching for....and then you have to write posts with those particular key words in the title of the post, the permalink structure, and also in the first few sentences. For example, people don't go to google and search for "cocoundressed blog" but they DO search "how to become a stripper"

You can also go on other stripper blogs and leave comments (useful ones that contribute to the conversation) Becoming a guest blogger on a higher traffic blog that links readers back to your blog is also a good strategy (we are always looking for guest bloggers at SGR!!)

after every blogpost, go to www.pingler.com and ping your blog. this lets search engines know you have new content to be indexed.

If you want to be sneaky (like me and this response) you can use anchor text for a high traffic keyword as your comment name and then pingler it.

And if you want to see an example of everything I just wrote about, go to http://www.stripandgrowrich.com/blog

    Best of luck,

  5. Hello Rebecca, Thanks for visiting and commenting.

Sorry. That little line about ""stripper secrets" for $19.99 on PayPal" was just a dumb joke. I have no problem with people charging money for good, solid advice. I definitely have no problem with really smart, experience strippers giving out advice.

Your site is awesome, especially the videos. I'll be reading more of it soon!

  7. Hi Rebecca,
Thanks alot for that. I really appreciate it. But I think, for now, I'm going ton concentrate on writing and being a beginner blogger.
Readers seem to be slowly trickling in... :)

  8. Hi Coco, I found your blog doing some research on how to be a stripper. I'm kind of a nerd about researching stuff before I buy/try it ;) I've been unemployed for awhile and am practically broke... So I've been considering dancing. I've read all your entries and they're really helpful - especially for someone who's seriously considering this and has no clue what to do. The thing for me is that I'm nervous about dealing with guys who want 'extras'. I had a yoga student (I teach yoga part-time) who is a stripper, and she said she let the guys touch her wherever they wanted. She even tried to work the shifts where the managers were less strict so she could make more $$ on extras... I didn't say anything to her, but I just wouldn't want to do that. Could you comment on 'extras' and what your experience is with men who expect them and strippers who give them? Can I make $$ not doing that if other girls in the next booth over are doing that?? Thanks CoCo - keep writing!
